Homestay Ilihan

During the recently concluded #EatIligan campaign, I, along with a few food bloggers from all over Mindanao stayed at the newest inn/apartment in the city. It’s homey, the air is fresh and has zero-to-little noise pollution. It’s in a safe neighborhood too!
homestay_rooms
The rooms are well lit with lots of windows and enough power outlets for a laptop lan party! They’re fully air-conditioned with a wardrobe and large mirrors if you want to keep your OOTD game up. There’s a LED TV and WIFI if you want to review the place on TripAdvisor. The rooms have the same internal layout, except for the two honeymoon rooms where it only has a queen-sized bed.
homestay_beds
If you have some leftover food, there’s an adequately sized refrigerator in the kitchen. The sink is sparkling clean and a water heater is also provided if you want some hot coffee/tea.
homestay_kitchen
There’s lots of cabinets if you want to stock up a month’s worth of groceries. You’re probably not staying there for that long but it’s there if you need it.
homestay_sink
The toilet is clean and well maintained. The faucets work and there’s toilet paper.
hoemstay_toiletsink
The shower supposedly has hot & cold water but it didn’t work when I tried it. But hey, there’s a rain-shower head so it’s all good. A couple of big and small towels are also provided for you to dry up.
homestay_shower
Breakfast is served when you wake up. If you feel like ordering more food, there’s a phone at the lobby/reception area to call your favorite fastfood.
homestay_food
Room rates is at P1,300.00 per night. Based on my experience, it is quite a good deal. Considering you have all the appliances functioning and a very well maintained room. You’ll be hard pressed finding a better place to stay at that price point. Or even at any price point in Iligan.

HOW TO GET THERE?

Assuming you’re in the Tambo Bus Terminal, take the jeep that passes by H30/Coffeeworks. Then ride a trisikad/tricycle and ask the driver to take you to Homestay Ilihan. If he’s not familiar, just say you need to get to New Frontier. When you’re there, just let the guards tell the driver where Homestay is.

PLDT, Smart expand Wifi footprint in Mindanao

PLDT and Smart Communications have reinforced the data connectivity with Smart Wifi at the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.

The firing up of Smart Wifi would improve customer experience for travelers using airport connectivity in the key gateways serving Northern and Southern Mindanao. Last week, PLDT and Smart also installed Smart Wifi in Davao City’s Francisco Bangoy International Airport.

The upgrade of the wireless connectivity in the airport would enable travelers to maximize their digital experience while surfing the Internet for their favorite sites, and keeping connected with home and office while traveling. With a bandwidth of up to 1 gigabit per second, Smart Wifi promises a world-class digital experience.

“Connectivity is important for a country of many islands like the Philippines. Smart Wifi is just the first in a series of projects that the Department of Transportation intends to roll out in the coming days in partnership with PLDT and Smart,” said Transportation Undersecretary Roberto Lim during the rollout in Davao City’s airport.

“A tourist’s impression of a country will be largely based on the first and last experience of his destination.  Smart Wifi contributes to improving this experience and to the success of having them come over and visit again,” added Lim.

Laguindingan Airport is one of busiest regional airports in the country. It serves the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, as well as the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte in Northern Mindanao. It can accommodate 2,000 passengers a day, and up to 1.6 million a year.

“The installation of Smart Wifi in the Laguindingan airport is part of our commitment to improve Internet access and coverage nationwide.  With the data connectivity, travelers will get to enjoy a seamless digital experience for more productive and meaningful journeys,” said Eric R. Alberto, EVP for PLDT/Smart, and president and CEO, ePLDT.

The Laguindingan and Davao airports are among the 21 major transport hubs identified by the DOTr for installation of Smart Wifi as laid out by the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and PLDT and Smart chairman, president and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan.

The initial rollout also includes all four passenger terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as well as airports in Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Kalibo, Laguindingan, General Santos, Clark, Laoag, Cebu, Caticlan, and Zamboanga. Also in the list are key seaports in Southern Luzon as well as MRT 3, and LRT lines 1 and 2 for Metro Manila.

Smart Wifi’s footprint will also be expanded to cover more public areas, such as city halls, schools, hospitals, and establishments such as malls, restaurants, and coffee shops, among many others, amid the increasing demand for more public Wifi hotspots in the country.

The rollout is backed by PLDT’s robust and resilient fixed and wireless networks.

Japanese Food Feast @ Ramen-yah Japanese Noodles & Bento

The second stop for the #EatIligan: Iligan Food Appreciation Tour – Day 2 was at Rahmen Yah, a Japanese Restaurant located along the highway not too far from the Tambo-Bayug junction.  After feasting on “snackies” at our first stop, we looked forward to have a sumptuous lunch at Rahmen-Yah.

Rahmen-Yah is the house of food to come to if you are craving for a taste of Japanese cuisine.  They are a place of comfort food like noodles, bento, and other foods that orginated from Japan.

This is not my first time to check into the place where food are laid out for our eyes & camera to feast on, but to be devoured afterwards. Here’s my first experience and the second time was nonetheless different, except that there were fifteen of us who enjoyed the dishes oozing with yummyness.

 photo DSC_0046_zpshh0eceyf.jpg

The table was already set when we arrived. Afterwhich the dishes (warm and freshly cooked) started coming in. As much as we wanted to pick on the food and fill our filled-up tummies, our eyes and camera has to work first.

The media-influencers at work!

The group was composed of bloggers from Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City, who blogs on different niches yet they have one thing in common – they love food!

The following are the foods we feasted on:

They have several variety of Ramen’s but I got focused on NPR because I do not eat pork.  I know that the other served Ramen were delicious because of the satisfied look I saw on companion’s face like the Black Curry Ramen.

— Pork Katsudon @ 149.00–

Those who are fun of rice toppings,  they serve several flavors of Donburi or Japanese rice bowls.   Aside from Pork Katsudon, they also sell Pork Donburi, Chicken Katsudon, Beef Gyudon, and Chicken Oyakudon.  Each cost  at an affordable price of Php 149.00 and you go home with a really full tummy.

Some people’s dinner is often started with a Beer. The place prided itself with a Beer only sold at
Ramen-yah when in Iligan.

This set of cold sweets in a jar completed the meal.

Hurray to Ramen-Yah Japanese Noodle and Bento for being one of the sponsors of this #EatIligan event.  We really enjoyed that Japanese feel through the sumptuous food served.

It’s More Fun in B-Bu-Q

Category : Food

DSC_7735

“Bibo sa B-Bu-Q” is their tagline, and surely it won’t disappoint you, especially with their affordable and bigger slice pork barbecue.

B-Bu-Q Barbecue Haus was just established in 2012, and now they already have 3 outlets. The first outlet is in The Strip, in Pala-o. Also in Roxas Avenue, just in front of the Post Office and in Pedro Permites Road, this is the road going towards Redemptorist church.

The people behind the success in this Iliganon-owned business is serious not only in offering delicious barbecue for us, but also providing their customers a good service. Recently, they even had consulted business experts for their store upgrading.

B-Bu-Q became famous because of their unusually delicious pork barbecue and bigger slice priced at 13 pesos per stick, beats local competition.

My new personal favorite is their chorizo, it has more meat and less fat. A bit spicy and the taste that lingers in my tongue.

DSC_7750

Below is the timelapse video of us Iligan Bloggers, with fellow bloggers from Cagayan de Oro and Davao, obviously enjoying the barbecue, because it’s more bibo in B-Bu-Q.
